We would like to take some time to honor the late, great Elizabeth Taylor who passed away today, Wednesday March 22, 2011, at the age of 79. Elizabeth Taylor is best known for her movie roles, such as the original Cleopatra, her over the top glamour and beauty, and generosity through her humanitarian work. She resided in the Palm Springs area for many years and her 10,200 square-foot estate with 7 bedrooms and 9 and a half baths at 417 West Hermosa Place sits on over 1.5 acres. She was honored with a star on Palm Canyon Drive in 1994. She will never be forgotten.
Elizabeth Taylor had a great love for music. It seems very appropriate that in less than a month, the Palm Springs/La Quinta/Coachella Valley area will be hosting the annual Coachella Music Festival. The weekend long event starts on Friday April 15th and ends on Sunday April 17th. Headliners for Friday include the following performers: Kings of Leon, The Black Key, Lauryn Hill, The Chemical Brothers, Flogging Molly, and Ozomatli. Headliners for Saturday include the following performers: Mumford and Sons, The Kills, Erykah Badu, The Kills, and Arcade Fire. Some of the headliners for Sunday are the following: Kanye West, Duran Duran, Nas, Damian Marley, Wiz Khalifa, and Jimmy Eat World. With well over 100 performers throughout the entire weekend, there is a band or musical guest for everyone and every genre of music!
Be sure to do some research before just showing up to the venue! Coachella seems to be a lot stricter this year than in years past to avoid scams. For example, none of the paper tickets are valid, only weekend passes are being sold, passes have not been distributed yet, and everyone is required to wear a wristband to enter the premises. For additional information, visit the Coachella website.
Remember! The Lake La Quinta Inn is just a short drive away from the Coachella Valley and Elizabeth Taylor’s former Estate. Come stay with us for this spectacular weekend. Take advantage of the amazing music, as well as the history La Quinta has to offer. Call us for accommodations: 760-564-7332.
On April 2, 2011, the La Quinta area welcomes three of the greatest R&B artists/groups to the Spotlight 29 Casino! Ready For The World, Johnny Gill, and Sisters With Voices (SWV) will grace the stage with Johnny Gill being the main attraction. Johnny Gill has had a long withstanding R&B career that started as a solo artist in 1983 with hit romantic ballads such as “Super Love,” “My, My, My,” “Rub You the Right Way,” “Fairweathered Friend,” and “Wrap My Body Tight.” He then joined New Edition, replacing Bobby Brown, from 1988 to 1990. In 1990 he relaunched his solo career, becoming very successful with his self titled album which sold over a million copies, topped the R&B charts, and was Top Ten in the Pop charts. He has since reunited with New Edition, yet still maintains his solo career.
More on Johnny Gill, Ready For The World, and SWV set to perform on April 2nd!!
Just a reminder that Halloween is just around the corner! That not only means that you’d better start planning your awe-inspiring costume but it also means that the Phish Festival 8 concert is quickly approaching!
A great weekend excursion in June would be at Lake La Quinta Inn – have a “Girls Getaway Weekend” planned.
Grab all your girlfriends and book a room (or rooms) at the Lake La Quinta Inn. Share a room or relax by yourself.
Enjoy a whole weekend of fun and relaxing things to do.
